The St. Thomas Allotments Association (STAA) holds various events at each of our nine sites and sometimes outside of them. Our main event for the year is our summer produce show, held in St. Thomas, Exeter in the UK. Please check our event listings below to find out what is happening at your local allotment site. If you are a local allotment tenant, your site is part of the STAA, and you wish to host an allotment event at your site, please do no not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to list your event on this website.

STAA BIODIVERSITY BOOST PROJECT: FOCUS ON SOIL

The soil on our allotments is the quiet engine of all our growing efforts. We will only get poor harvests from thin, depleted soil. How do we make our soil as healthy, well-balanced and resilient as possible? How do we ensure that it holds onto nutrients and water, making both available to the plants we grow?
Nicky Scott, Devon's composting guru has strategies, knowledge and experience which will throw a light on ways of improving and maintaining our soil's health. He will give an illustrated talk, with plenty of time for questions, on Wednesday October 7th at 7.00pm in the big room at the Cowick Barton pub, Cowick Lane, EX2 9HF.
There's plenty of parking at the pub and it is on the A bus route. Bring a notebook and pen! This event is free to St. Thomas Allotment Association plot-holders but places are limited. Please reserve yours by completing the CONTACT FORM (click here) letting us know your full name, allotment site and plot number, and an email address to contact you on. Unless you reserve a place, you may be turned away. The deadline is 2nd October.
On Saturday, October 10th at Cowick Lane site, there will be an opportunity to test your soil to see how healthy and nutrient-rich it is, using a sophisticated soil-testing kit borrowed from the Exeter Seed Bank. Please bring a small sample of soil from your plot. This service which will be available for 2 hours on that day between 11:00am and 1:00pm.
